Every wedding in Mumbai seems to come with a countdown: the venue, the outfits, the guest list, the mehendi, the sangeet. Skin often gets squeezed into the last two weeks, and that is exactly when people make the mistakes that show up in photographs: a strong peel three days before, a new product the night before the haldi, or a facial that leaves a breakout.
Good skin for your wedding is mostly about timing. Some treatments need months to show results. Others are perfect a few days before. And a few should never be tried for the first time close to the date. This guide gives you a month-by-month plan for brides and grooms. It is written by the team at Dr. K Skin Hair Advance Laser Clinic in Charni Road.
Quick answer: start 3 to 6 months before. Use the early months for anything that needs a course, such as laser hair removal, acne, acne scars or pigmentation. Finish stronger treatments at least a month before. In the last two weeks, do nothing new; a Hydrafacial 3 to 5 days before gives the final glow.
The golden rule: nothing new in the last two weeks
This is the rule we repeat most often. In the final two weeks before your wedding:
- no new skincare products,
- no new treatments you have never had before,
- no strong peels, lasers or aggressive facials,
- no DIY masks or home remedies from social media.
Skin needs time to settle after anything new. A reaction two days before the wedding cannot always be calmed in time, and on brown skin, irritation can leave dark marks that last for weeks. Dermatologists give the same advice internationally: stronger treatments belong months before the wedding, and only gentle, familiar treatments belong in the final weeks.
Six months or more before: the long-haul treatments
If you have six months or more, this is the time for treatments that need a course of sessions.
Laser hair removal
Laser hair removal needs 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, so it takes months to complete. Starting six months ahead gets you well into the course, with visibly less hair on the arms, underarms, legs and face by the wedding. Keep your last session at least two weeks before the wedding and before any outfit trial that shows skin. Read our guide to laser hair removal for how it works on Indian skin.
Acne scars
Scar treatment builds collagen slowly, over 3 to 6 months and often longer. Start as early as you can, and finish the last session at least a month before the wedding so any redness has settled. See our guide to acne scars.
Acne and hormonal breakouts
If you are breaking out regularly, get it treated now. Acne treatment takes weeks to work, and controlling it early also prevents new marks.
Stubborn pigmentation and melasma
Melasma needs 3 to 4 months of treatment, plus sun protection. Starting early means you are in the maintenance phase by the wedding, not in the middle of stronger treatment. Our pigmentation and melasma guide explains the approach.
Three months before: build the base
Three months out is the ideal time for most brides and grooms to start if nothing major needs fixing.
- Book a skin consultation. Dr. Kajal looks at your skin, your concerns and your wedding dates, and builds a plan that works backwards from the big day.
- Start a course of peels or medifacials for tan, dullness, acne marks or uneven tone. A light peel every 2 to 3 weeks gives 4 to 5 sessions before the wedding.
- Fix your home routine. A gentle cleanser, a moisturiser, sunscreen every morning, and one targeted active chosen by your doctor. Keep it the same until the wedding.
- Start sunscreen seriously. Venue visits, shopping trips and outdoor functions add up to a lot of sun. Tan is much easier to prevent than to remove.
- Plan the other treatments. If you are thinking about lip neutralisation, eyebrow microblading, Botox or fillers, discuss them now so they can be timed properly.
Two months before: fine-tune
- Continue your peel or medifacial course. Your skin should be responding well by now.
- Laser toning for tan or uneven tone, if part of your plan, can run alongside.
- Eyebrow microblading or lip neutralisation, if you want them, should be done now. Both need a touch-up after 4 to 6 weeks, and brows look darker for the first week before settling.
- Book your makeup trial and tell your makeup artist about any treatments you are having.
One month before: stronger treatments finish here
- Last stronger treatment. Any laser resurfacing, deeper peel or scar treatment should finish by now.
- Botox, if you want it: 2 to 4 weeks before. It takes about two weeks to reach its full effect, which leaves time for a small top-up.
- Fillers, if you want them: at least 2 to 4 weeks before, so any swelling or bruising has settled.
- Hair: if you have been treating hair fall, keep going. Avoid a new chemical treatment, colour or straightening close to the wedding without a strand test.
Two weeks before: protect, don't experiment
- Your last light peel should be about 7 to 10 days before the wedding, and only one your skin has had before.
- Last laser hair removal session: no later than two weeks before.
- No new products. Not even a "gentle" new serum.
- Sleep, water and food. Late nights and heavy, salty food show up as puffiness and dullness.
The final week
- Hydrafacial 3 to 5 days before. It cleanses, hydrates and brightens with no downtime, and the glow lasts about a week. Read about the options in our Hydrafacial vs medifacial guide.
- Keep skincare simple: gentle cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen.
- Hair removal: shave or trim rather than waxing or threading for the first time in a new place.
- Pack a skin kit for the functions: gentle cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen, blotting papers, and any prescribed spot treatment.
A quick timeline
| Time before the wedding | What to do |
|---|---|
| 6 months or more | Start laser hair removal, acne scar treatment, melasma treatment |
| 3 months | Skin consultation, peels or medifacials, a steady home routine, daily sunscreen |
| 2 months | Continue peels, laser toning, microblading or lip neutralisation, makeup trial |
| 1 month | Finish stronger treatments; Botox and fillers if planned |
| 2 weeks | Last light peel (7 to 10 days before), last laser session; nothing new |
| 3 to 5 days | Hydrafacial for the final glow |
| Wedding week | Simple skincare, sleep, water, sunscreen |
A sample plan: 12 weeks, three concerns
Here is how a typical plan looks for a bride with a wedding in 12 weeks who wants less arm and underarm hair, fewer acne marks and a brighter complexion.
| Week | Treatment |
|---|---|
| 1 | Consultation, patch test, first laser session (underarms and arms), start sunscreen and a prescribed routine |
| 2 | First light peel for acne marks and tan |
| 4 | Second peel |
| 6 | Second laser session; third peel |
| 8 | Fourth peel; makeup trial |
| 10 | Last peel (a peel her skin already knows); last laser session before the wedding |
| 11 | Nothing new; simple skincare |
| 12 | Hydrafacial 3 to 5 days before the wedding |
Two laser sessions will not finish a laser course, but they give a visible reduction and the course simply continues after the wedding. Every plan is different, and yours depends on your skin and your dates.
Haldi, mehendi and skin
The functions before the wedding bring their own skin challenges.
- Haldi: turmeric can stain the skin yellow and occasionally irritate sensitive skin. A layer of moisturiser before, and gentle cleansing after, helps. If you have very sensitive skin or eczema, do a small test beforehand.
- Mehendi: natural henna is usually well tolerated, but "black henna" can contain a dye called PPD, which can cause severe allergic reactions. Ask your mehendi artist what they use.
- Heavy makeup for several days: remove it fully every night with a gentle cleanser. Sleeping in makeup is a common cause of breakouts during wedding week.
- Late nights and long days in the sun: reapply sunscreen for daytime functions, and keep blotting papers handy.
For grooms
Grooms often start later, but the same principles apply.
- Two to three months before: a skin check. Treat acne, tan and darkening around the beard line or neck with peels or medifacials.
- Razor bumps and ingrown hairs: if shaving leaves bumps and dark spots on the neck, laser for the neckline and beard shaping can help, if started early.
- Beard styling: decide on the look early. A dramatic change in the final week can reveal tan lines and irritated skin.
- Three to five days before: a Hydrafacial for clean, fresh skin in photos.
- The final days: shave carefully with a fresh blade and a soothing gel, not for the first time the morning of the wedding.
If your skin has special needs
Acne-prone skin. Start as early as you can. Breakouts take weeks to calm, and marks take longer to fade. Avoid heavy creams and new makeup products close to the date, and keep a prescribed spot treatment ready rather than squeezing.
Sensitive skin or eczema. Keep everything gentle and familiar. Patch test makeup, haldi mixes and any new product well in advance. A calming medifacial may suit you better than a peel.
Very dry skin. A course of hydrating treatments and a richer moisturiser help makeup sit better. Exfoliate gently rather than often.
Melasma or pigmentation. Sun protection matters more than anything else. Plan outdoor functions with shade, and reapply sunscreen during the day.
Don't forget the rest of your skin
Wedding outfits show more than the face. Plan for:
- Arms, back and underarms for blouses and sleeveless outfits: laser hair removal needs months; tan and darkening respond to peels.
- Hands and feet for mehendi and photographs: sunscreen, moisturiser and gentle exfoliation.
- Lips: a hydrating lip balm with SPF, and lip neutralisation well ahead if you want lasting colour correction.
- Back acne: salicylic acid peels over a few weeks can clear it before a backless blouse.
After the wedding
The honeymoon often means sun, sea and pools. Pack a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and reapply it every two hours outdoors. Keep your skincare simple, and book a calming facial when you are back if the sun has taken a toll. If you have been on a course of treatment, restart maintenance to keep the results you worked for.
Mistakes we see every wedding season
- Booking a strong peel a few days before. Redness and peeling rarely settle in time.
- Trying a new product for "extra glow". A reaction a few days out is hard to hide.
- Waxing or threading a new area the day before. Redness and bumps can last a day or two.
- Skipping sunscreen during the functions. Tan builds quickly across several outdoor events.
- Starting laser hair removal a month before. One or two sessions will not give the result people expect.
- Getting Botox or fillers for the first time in the final week. There is no time to settle or adjust.
What if your wedding is less than a month away?
You can still do a lot, as long as it is gentle.
- A skin consultation to check for anything that needs calming.
- A medifacial or light peel only if your skin has had one before, at least 7 to 10 days before the wedding.
- A Hydrafacial 3 to 5 days before.
- Simple skincare and daily sunscreen.
- Treating any active breakout with a doctor's advice rather than home remedies.

Frequently asked questions
When should I start my pre-wedding skin treatments?
Ideally 3 to 6 months before the wedding. Laser hair removal and acne scar treatment need 6 months or more; peels and pigmentation treatment need about 3 months; a Hydrafacial can be done 3 to 5 days before.
What is the best facial before a wedding?
A Hydrafacial 3 to 5 days before is one of the safest choices: it cleanses, hydrates and gives a glow with no downtime. Avoid trying any new or strong treatment in the last two weeks.
When should I get my last chemical peel before the wedding?
Your last light peel should be 7 to 10 days before the wedding, and only a peel your skin has had before. Stronger peels should finish at least a month before.
Can I get Botox before my wedding?
Yes, if you want it, have it 2 to 4 weeks before. It takes about two weeks to reach its full effect, and that leaves time for a small adjustment. Do not try it for the first time in the final week.
Is laser hair removal possible before the wedding?
Yes, but start early. Sessions are 4 to 8 weeks apart and most people need 6 to 8, so starting 6 months ahead gets you well into the course. Keep your last session at least 2 weeks before the wedding.
What should grooms do before the wedding?
Start about 2 to 3 months ahead with a skin check, acne or tan treatment if needed, a Hydrafacial a few days before, and beard shaping or laser for the neckline if razor bumps are a problem.
